Tim Van Egmond has been a talented and energetic dance caller and musician for over 25 years, and he’s taken a special interest in singing games and dances for children and families. Much of this he first learned at Dance Weeks at Pinewoods Dance Camp near Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts and at Augusta Heritage Arts Workshop in Elkins, West Virginia, as well as attending special workshops and Folk Festivals. Over the years he’s been in demand to lead dances for families and children at many schools, wedding celebrations, churches, and community series such as the Family Dances in Northampton and Montague, MA, Dummerston, VT, and Baltimore and Glen Echo (outside of Washington, D.C.) MD. He has been one of the two callers in the nationally acclaimed contra dance band Swallowtail since its start in 1978, and has led children and family dance workshops at places where they’ve performed. These include the Old Songs Festival near Albany, NY and Almost Heaven Dance Weekend at Buffalo Gap Dance Camp in Capon Ridge, West Virginia.
